  • Nums samples per thread reduced.

Hi! I have a precision 7860, 24core i9, RTX 4090 and 64GB RAM. The model is 1.8GB and I’m trying to render in 4K. Apparently this machine should handle this relatively easily. Could there be an issue with my model or settings because it’s taking hours? Thanks.

      Hi Fahad,
You need to tell more about your scene, otherwise nobody will be able to help you. Post a screenshot of your scene so it can be understood.

        Hello fahad_janjua,
Thank you for reaching out to Chaos.

Note that the log message “Num samples per thread reduced to X, rendering might be slower" indicates that you are close to the memory ceiling on your GPU with the given scene due to its complexity. We advise using GPU-Z to track memory usage: please see here how to use it. Also you can see GPU Load in VFB Stats.

File size does not affect rendering speed, performance or memory used directly. For example, you may not have a lot of geometry in your scene and the file size can be rather small even, but at the same time you may have a lot of V-Ray assets such as V-Ray Fur, Scatter, Proxies etc. which are loaded or generated during rendering times and do require memory to be rendered.

Therefore, you need to optimize your scene to fit available memory, as first steps try:
        • Install the latest recommended drivers by following instructions from this article. Make sure to select Custom (Advanced) installation and click Perform clean installation.
        • To optimize used memory for textures either use Compressed textures or enable System Memory for Textures option considering that you have enough RAM.
        • If you have V-Ray Fur in your scene try to optimize Fur settings, for example by decreasing the Count and make sure to enable Level of Details.
        • If you have a Light Mix render element make sure to set it to Group Instances instead of Individual Lights.
For more ideas please check this article: Memory Usage Optimizations for GPU rendering.

Let me know if you need any further help.
